Concrete cutter and its various operation modes
A Concrete cutter is a power tool which is utilized for cutting masonry, concrete, brick, tile, asphalt and other solid materials. It is also known as concrete saw or road saw or con saw. The concrete saw can be a large walk behind saw or hand held cut off saw or of other styles and may be powered by hydraulic, gasoline, electric motors or pneumatic pressure. The concrete saw uses diamond saw blades for cutting stone, concrete, asphalt etc. On cut off saws, abrasive cut off wheels are used to cut steel or stone. In cutting hard substances such as concrete, significant friction is generated which needs to reduce dust and the blades are cooled to extend their life. Before operating a concrete saw the operation manual should be read and understood clearly for issues of safety. The concrete saw machine should be inspected thoroughly to check its condition and some cleaning work can also be done. The diamond saw blades should also be checked by the operator. The pin hole should be driven and no distortion should be there in the pin hole. The gullets must be check because from the gullets the cracks on the steel core of the blades may be propagated. Extreme fatigue failure is indicated by the cracks and catastrophic failure may be caused if sawing is continued.
The edge of the steel core must be checked because blue oxidation or discoloration may have caused. This indicates a condition of overheating which is caused by insufficient cooling of air or water. The possibility of blade failure and loss of core tension can be caused by overheating of the blades. The width of the steel core should be checked so that around the rim of the blade it is uniform and under cutting core protection is improper or under cutting condition is not brought by not succumbing in cutting highly abrasive materials. The directional arrow of the saw should be checked to guarantee the blade is oriented properly. On the blade the directional arrow should be positioned so that with the turn of the shaft the direction of the rotation is cut downwards. The diamond rims or the diamond segments of the blades should be checked to ensure that there are no missing portions, dings or cracks. The blade that does not have a portion of the rim or a segment is missing must not be used. Missing or damaged rims or segments may cause damage to the Concrete cutter and may cause injury to the person who is operating or others present in the operating area.
The specifications and the features of the blade should be checked to ensure the cutting operation is matched properly. Water may be present in wet blades which can behave as a coolant. A diamond blade which is not appropriately matched if utilized may damage the blade and may result in poor performance. The diameter of the arbour hole must be checked so that it is free from distortions and matches the blade properly. Right blade collars or flanges must be used. The inside portion of the flanges must be free of debris and should be clean. The maximal RPM must be checked.
The concrete saw is easily available online. Organizations interested can browse the internet to directly avail these from the manufacturers.
