Elevators are the kind of equipments which transport vertically and efficiently goods or people between floors, decks, levels of a vessel, building or other structures. Electric motors are used for powering these equipments. The electric motors either drive counterweight systems like pump or hoist hydraulic fluid for increasing a cylindrical piston such as a jack or are traction cables. These equipments are kind of conveyor devices in manufacture and agriculture which are utilized for lifting substances in a continuous stream into silos or bins. Various types of elevators are involved in manufacturing and agriculture which include grain auger screw conveyor, chain and bucket elevator or the forks or paddles and chain of hay equipments.
These equipments which move are of four types and these use the hoist mechanisms. These four types include traction elevators, climbing elevators, traction hydraulic elevators and hydraulic elevators. Electric motors with DC or AC are used for operating geared traction machines. Worm gears are used by the geared machines for controlling the mechanical movement of the cars by undulating steel hoist ropes which is operated by a high speed motor and is attached to the gearbox over a drive sheave. These machines are perfect for overhead or basement traction. The traction machines which are used in low traffic commercial applications and residential buildings generally utilize two speeds or single speed AC hoist machine. Metal sliding doors are present in all commercial elevators whereas the residential ones have hinged wooden shaft accessible doors.
Hydraulic equipments are of three types which include roped hydraulic equipments, hole less hydraulic equipments and conventional hydraulic equipments. Conventional hydraulic equipments utilize an underground cylinder for low level buildings consisting of 2 to 5 floors. Hole less hydraulic equipments utilize a pair of ground cylinders which is used in cost and environmentally sensitive buildings with 2 to 4 floors. Roped hydraulic equipments utilize a rope system and above ground cylinders which help the equipments to travel more than the piston can move.
The traction hydraulic equipments has counterweight and overhead traction cables but is operated by hydraulic power and not by overhead traction motor. The counterweight is raised by reducing the demand which is caused by the advantageous roping ratio of the weight of the car along with its passengers. This decreases the size of the needed machinery. Climbing equipments have its propulsion and are self ascending equipments. Combustion or electric engine is used for its propulsion.
